Getting Lucky

Getting Lucky by Kayla Perrin

Blurb on Net Galley:
In just four short months, lucky-in-love Annelise is going to become a mother. But before she hits the delivery room, she’s got one last piece of business to take care of—hooking up her single girlfriends with a pair of sexy brothers on a special weeklong getaway.
Lishelle and Claudia are more than ready for some no-stringsattached flings. And soon Lishelle and gorgeous, insatiable Jared are setting the sheets on fire. Even back in Atlanta, the sex is amazing. So why is she still so bothered that her ex-boyfriend—the one she dumped—is getting married?
Meanwhile, Claudia can’t get enough of Chad’s expert toe-curling, scream-inducing moves. But introduce him to her high-society friends? Puh-lease. Sure, he’s funny, smart and devoted—but without movie-star looks or a matching bank balance, he’s hardly Claudia’s ideal man. If that makes her a bitch, fine. She has an image to maintain.
But when tragedy strikes, it soon becomes apparent to the friends that they need to rethink what’s truly  important in life. Because while a hard man is good to find, it takes more than luck to keep him!
The book started out typical enough. Girl, Annelise, is happy and pregnant and wants to make sure her friends, Claudia & Lishelle are equally happy.  During their weekly brunch Lishelle announces she met someone which couldn't have come at a more perfect time when she learns her ex just got engaged. I was immediately turned off when Lishelle uses the guy she just met for sex. As a way to forget about her ex. I just about put the book down right then and there.  But I was less than 50 pages in so I decided to give the book a fair try.  I am glad I did.  While I felt like I was missing some information because this is the third book about these friends, I still enjoyed the basic plot.  I think I could have enjoyed the book more if I had read the previous two, been a little better acquainted with the characters and why they acted the way they did.
Once Annelise gets it into her mind to set up her friends nothing can stop her.  They take off for a vacation and to meet with the two men she has handpicked for her friends. Of course her friends have no clue. Once there, after some initial hesitation, her friends fall into line with her plan.
Claudia takes it slowly, playing it safe. She takes her time with Chad, her past making her hesitate to get involved. Lishelle jumps right in with Jared as she is still trying to get over her ex. Both ladies are in denial. I am still unsure if I like these two characters. They both seem so vain and more concerned with appearances than true feelings.  Lishelle has already dumped one man for lacking in the "size" department.  Claudia keeps Chad at arms length because he isn't in the same "class" as she is. Again, maybe if I knew these characters better, it would have been easier for me to like them.
Once back from vacation the real world and all it's problems intrude.  Then comes the "tragedy" (I am not giving it away) and they all realize life is too short. I am not going to say anything else about the end, because it would give too much away. And you should definitely go read this book for yourself.
Kayla Perrin has a good handle on women and the ins and outs of the drama of friendship. I enjoyed seeing how the women interacted and related to each other. Also the sex is nice and steamy. The author has written a fine book and everyone has their happily ever after so I can rate this book: 3 Stars.  If I had read the other two, I probably would have rated it: 4 Stars.
