Review: Down and Dirty by Christine Bell

Today we have the review for Down and Dirty, book 2 in the Dare Me series by Christine Bell. Tomorrow look for an interview with Ms. Bell as part of the Down and Dirty blog tour.

He was a dare she’s never been able to resist…

Cat Thomas has never been the kind of girl to stick. A self-professed infatuation junky, she latches on the newest, hottest guy on the block, then finds a reason—real or imagined—to dump him. When she accepts a dare to rekindle her high school flame and jump in bed with her brother’s best friend, Shane Decker, she knows she’s in trouble. She can’t resist the man, even after all these years apart, and that just won’t do.

Shane has come back to town for a couple reasons. The biggest one? He’s tired of living away from those he loves, including Cat. But now she’s spooked and will do anything to drive a wedge between them, including trying to fix him up with other women through an online dating service.

What does he have to do to make her see that settling down doesn’t mean settling, and he’s ready to spend a lifetime proving it?

Barnes & Noble:

Bio: Christine Bell is a romance author and also writes erotic romance as Chloe Cole. She and her handsome hubby currently reside in Pennsylvania with a four-pack of teenage boys. If she gets time off from her duties as maid, chef, chauffeur, or therapist, she can be found reading just about anything she can get her hands on, from Young Adult novels to books on poker theory. She doesn’t like root beer, clowns or bugs (except ladybugs, on account of their cute outfits), but lurrves chocolate, going to the movies, the New York Giants and playing Texas Hold ‘Em. Writing is her passion, but if she had to pick another occupation, she would be a pirate…or, like, a ninja maybe. Christine loves to hear from readers, so please contact her through her website,

Ok, now we get to know Cat a little better. Her high school crush is back, all grown up and hotter than ever.  In this installment in the Dare Me series we get to revisit Lacey and Galen while meeting our new hero and heroine. This book was just as funny, hot and sweet as the first. I fell in love with Cat in Down for the Count. She is a sassy, take no prisoners kind of gal and I love that about her. Now however, that could be her down fall. She is so stubborn I wanted to wring her neck.

Shane is all sorts of smexy hotness and a dreamy hero to boot.  It is clear there is unfinished business between these two. Cat wants to finish it on her terms and Shane wants something totally different. I love how Cat’s whole family, and Shane’s too, got involved in the matchmaking. It was hilarious to watch.  In order to keep Shane at arm’s length Cat has a brainstorm to hook him up with a computer dating site. Oh, man does this come back to bite her in the ass.

This book had me laughing out loud.  Also I could totally relate with Cat as she was a bit of a klutz in the book. I alternated between hoping she stuck to her guns and wanting to throttle her for her stubbornness. Shane just plain made me melt. The final scene was enough to melt my heart and have happy tears. Then it made me laugh out loud again. I love when a book does that!

There was a secondary character in the book that Ms. Bell gave us just a glimpse of and I was more than intrigued. There is so much more to that girl’s story and the reader in me is hoping that Ms. Bell intends to give her a story in the Dare Me series. (I am dying to know what is in her past as a nurse and her bad relationship.) Perhaps with Rafe?  Just a thought, so if you are reading this Ms. Bell, I would love to see a Rafe/Courtney story!
